emergency plan
Make an Emergency Plan. Even if it’s just bullet point notes. It will take you 2 minutes and could be a lifesaver if there is an emergency because you won’t have to think while under stress, you can just follow a plan.
If a student has a medical emergency or an allergic reaction to food -- what's your plan??
How is the ambulance going to find your location in the middle of campus??
The answer is: you call YorkU Campus Security. Security will meet & escort the ambulance to your location. So have their phone number written down in advance. And know how to describe your location over the phone (i.e. building name and room number). If you have an permit from TUUS, YorkU security should have your event in their database.
Assign one exec member to be the emergency planner. Having event signs with arrows at your location is very helpful!
Have guest list with emergency contacts listed on it for each person
For Trips
Have an emergency contact, like a cellphone # for someone in the POLS department. Make sure they know the dates you’re going (so they know to pick up the phone if you call).
Know the closest hospital for each location you take students to
Know the address and major intersection for each location you’re taking the students to
Make sure you have lots of cellular data in case you need it.
In Case of Medical Emergencies
Always check to see if the person has a necklace or bracelet. Many people have special medical bracelets with info about serious allergies or medications they're on. Check any info on the necklace/bracelet but do not remove them from the person (paramedics and emergency doctors will need this info later).
Find the person's wallet/ID and give it to the paramedics.
Give the person's name and any emergency contact info to the paremedics (emergency info should be part of your guest list sign-up form)
